Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Broader ocean data and sharing rules

If enacted, the bill would let the program conduct operational oceanography measurements. It would make ocean work explicit alongside weather work in the law. Federal agencies and their regional projects would need to share data with regional coastal observing systems under common rules. This could improve access to timely local ocean data for researchers, coastal communities, and businesses.

Five-year funding for ocean observing

If enacted, the bill would authorize $47.5 million each year for 2026 through 2030 for the coastal and ocean observing system. This would be an authorization, not an appropriation. Congress would still need to approve the money before it can be spent. The funding would support observation work used by researchers, regional systems, coastal communities, and businesses.
