- Providers and suppliers would be checked for death status as part of initial enrollment, revalidation, and at least quarterly during their enrollment. These checks would use the Death Master File as the authoritative data source.
- State Medicaid agencies would be required to run these Death Master File checks during enrollment and revalidation and not less frequently than quarterly for all enrolled providers and suppliers.
- The enrollment and ongoing verification process would be formalized with a specified schedule and the Death Master File defined by federal statute as the source for death-status checks.
