Transfer Elwha lands to Tribal trust
If enacted, the U.S. would place about 1,082.63 acres into trust for the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. The land would become part of the Tribe’s Reservation and would not need a federal appraisal or valuation. All valid existing U.S. rights on the land would still apply. The Interior Secretary would survey the land as soon as practicable and could make minor boundary fixes and map error corrections. The land would not count as Indian gaming land under federal law. Treaty rights under the 1855 Treaty of Point No Point would stay the same.
Wild and Scenic rules for Elwha River
If enacted, the part of the Elwha River on the trust land that is covered by prior law would follow Wild and Scenic Rivers Act standards. Necessary adjustments under the Elwha River Restoration Act would still apply. This would guide how the river segment is protected and used.
