- Would change appointment and governance by bringing the CFPB under 5 U.S.C. Chapter 4 IG rules and removing its tie to the Federal Reserve Board. The President would be required to appoint a CFPB Inspector General within 60 days of enactment.
- Would impose formal congressional oversight by requiring the CFPB Inspector General to appear at semiannual hearings before the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and the House Committees on Financial Services and on Energy and Commerce.
- Would fund and integrate the new office by requiring the Bureau to dedicate 2% of transferred funds each year to the Office of Inspector General and by adding the CFPB to the Council of Inspectors General on Financial Oversight. The bill ties the new structure to confirmation of the first CFPB Inspector General and includes transition rules with the Federal Reserve's IG role.
