HR284119th Congress

GLRI Act of 2025

Sponsored By: Representative Joyce (OH)

In Committee

Summary

Would reauthorize the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and authorize $500 million each year for FY2027–FY2031. The bill would amend the Federal Water Pollution Control Act to add a new funding subparagraph that lists $500 million for each of fiscal years 2027, 2028, 2029, 2030, and 2031. The change codifies a fixed annual authorization level for GLRI within the statute that guides GLRI appropriations and places that five-year funding level into the law.

More funding for Great Lakes cleanup

This bill would reauthorize the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. It would authorize $500 million each year for 2027 through 2031. Money could support state, local, and tribal projects, plus nonprofits and federal work. It would fund cleanup, habitat, and water quality efforts in the Great Lakes region. This is only an authorization; Congress would still need to appropriate the money each year.
