Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Grants for 9-1-1 worker wellness

If enacted, HHS would award grants to 9-1-1 centers and eligible nonprofits. The money could start or expand evidence-based wellness and peer-support programs. Funds could pay for training, instructors, materials, and sharing program information. The bill would define who qualifies: centers that take 9-1-1 calls and do dispatch or related work, and nonprofits like 9-1-1 authorities and public safety associations. It would also define “public safety telecommunicator” by job code 43-5031 and what counts as a peer-support program.

PTSD care guidance for 9-1-1 workers

If enacted, HHS would publish best practices to spot, prevent, and treat PTSD and related issues in 9-1-1 workers. HHS would update the guidance over time. The agency would consult health experts, mental health researchers, clinicians, and national telecommunicator groups. HHS would also publish resources to help therapists understand 9-1-1 center culture, job stress, challenges after retirement, and proven treatments.
