Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

New tax credit for home food recycling

If enacted, you could claim a 30% nonrefundable tax credit for a qualified food recycling appliance and local organic waste pickup. The credit would be limited to $300 per appliance and $120 total for services each year. The appliance would need to be electric, used in your main U.S. home, and dry and chop food waste to divert it from landfills. Services would need to collect organic waste from your main U.S. home for local management. The credit would start for tax years beginning after December 31, 2025, and you could not claim it for appliances placed in service or services acquired after December 31, 2031.

No double tax break on recycling costs

If enacted, you could not also deduct or claim another credit for the same appliance or service costs used for this credit. If you claim the credit, your property’s tax basis would be reduced by the credit amount. These rules would apply for tax years beginning after December 31, 2025, and would not apply to costs for appliances placed in service or services acquired after December 31, 2031.
