Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Annual checks on Burma sanctions

If enacted, the President would decide who meets U.S. sanctions rules tied to Burma. The first review would be due within 180 days. Then it would repeat each year for seven years. Reviews would cover Burmese state‑owned enterprises named in the bill, Myanma Economic Bank, and foreign firms working in Burma’s jet fuel sector, including finance, supply, storage, and transport. Each time, the President would send Congress an unclassified report, with a classified annex if needed.

U.S. would limit Burma IMF shares

If enacted, the Treasury Secretary would tell the U.S. representative at the IMF to use the U.S. vote to limit any increase in Burma’s IMF shares while the State Administration Council rules Burma. This would apply when the IMF reviews how it sets country shares. The President would be able to waive this after certifying to the House Financial Services and Senate Foreign Relations committees that it is important to U.S. national interest and explaining the reasons.
