More FMLA leave for federal workers
If enacted, federal civilian workers could take up to 26 workweeks in a 12-month period to care for a covered servicemember. Workers who are covered servicemembers or veterans could also take up to 26 workweeks for a serious injury or illness that keeps them from doing their job. The bill would expand who counts as family to include domestic partners, many relatives, and other close associates. Serious health conditions would include injuries in the line of duty or conditions made worse by active duty. Foreseeable leave would need reasonable notice, and medical certification rules would apply. These changes would take effect upon enactment.
More FMLA leave for servicemembers and families
If enacted, eligible employees who are covered servicemembers could take up to 26 workweeks in a 12-month period for a serious injury or illness that stops them from doing their job. Family, domestic partners, and other close associates could take up to 26 workweeks to care for a covered servicemember. All standard FMLA, servicemember family, and veteran leave together could not exceed 26 workweeks in any 12-month period. The bill would broaden who counts as family and treat any child, regardless of age, as a son or daughter for these leaves. Intermittent or reduced-schedule leave would be allowed, foreseeable leave would need reasonable notice, and medical certification and health-benefit rules would apply. These changes would take effect upon enactment.
