Preventing Crimes Against Veterans Act of 2025

Summary

Creates a new federal crime for fraud involving veterans' benefits. The bill would make it illegal for anyone who knowingly executes or attempts a scheme to defraud a veteran, dependent, or survivor of benefits or to obtain those benefits improperly. Conviction carries a fine under Title 18, up to 5 years in prison, or both. The bill adds Section 1352 to Chapter 63 of Title 18 and updates the chapter's table of sections to list the new offense.

This bill would make it a federal crime to knowingly run a scheme to steal veterans' benefits. It would cover scams that take a veteran’s benefits or try to get benefits for them through fraud. A person convicted could be fined, jailed for up to 5 years, or both. "Veterans' benefits" would include any federal benefit for a veteran, their dependent, or survivor. "Veteran" would use the definition in Title 38.
