ATF DATA Act
Sponsored By: Representative Goldman, Daniel S. [D-NY-10]
Introduced
Summary
Structured public annual firearm trace reporting would require the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to publish a machine-readable, yearly report that breaks down trace data and trafficking analysis for the most recent calendar year. The report would include detailed lists and aggregates so Congress, researchers, and the public can compare sources, places, and patterns in recovered crime guns.

Yearly public report on traced guns
If enacted, ATF would publish a detailed public report within 6 months and at least once a year. It would list the 200 dealers with the most traced guns, by handgun, rifle, and shotgun, and by city. It would show average time-to-crime and counts under 1, 2, and 3 years, multiple sales, and lost or stolen reports. The report would include state data and 50 metro areas with high homicide rates, plus privately made guns. It would also cover guns recovered abroad with required serials, top requesting agencies, and trafficking patterns and investigations.
