Sustainable Aviation Fuel Information Act

Sponsored By: Representative Flood

Introduced

Summary

Sustainable aviation fuel data transparency is the bill's main goal. This bill would require the Energy Information Administration at the Department of Energy to add SAF information to the Petroleum Supply Monthly, the Weekly Petroleum Status Report, and other EIA reports the Administrator selects as soon as practicable. Required data include feedstock type, origin, and volumes disaggregated by State or Petroleum Administration for Defense District and by the United States. It would also report total SAF produced by State and SAF imported by foreign country. The reporting must use an accounting method that follows reliable statistical sampling and prevents double counting and the term "sustainable aviation fuel" is defined by reference to section 40B(d) of the Internal Revenue Code.

More public data on sustainable aviation fuel

If enacted, federal energy reports would add data on sustainable aviation fuel. EIA would include it in the Weekly Petroleum Status Report, Petroleum Supply Monthly, and other relevant reports. The data would show feedstock type, origin, and volume, broken out by state or PADD, the U.S., and by foreign country when possible. It would also list how much SAF is produced by each state and the U.S., and how much is imported from each country and in total. EIA would use reliable, no–double-count methods and the tax code’s SAF definition, starting as soon as practicable.
