Stop the Rate Hikes Act
Sponsored By: Representative Rep. Harder, Josh [D-CA-9]
Introduced
Summary
Caps utility rate increase requests to once per year. This bill amends the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978 by adding a new subsection that requires each electric utility to seek retail rate changes no more than once annually. The amendment is placed within the existing PUHRA framework and limits how often utilities can file for rate adjustments, concentrating any rate-change action into a single annual request per electric utility.

One electric rate hike per year
The bill would limit each electric utility to one retail rate increase request per year. That would limit how often your electric bill could go up. It does not set an effective date or spell out penalties. It would not create new programs or funding.
