HR5284119th Congress

Claiming Age Clarity Act

Sponsored By: Representative Smucker

Passed House

Summary

Renames key Social Security age terms to clearer, benefit-focused language. This bill would require the Commissioner of Social Security to update all Social Security Administration materials, online and in print, so that "early eligibility age" is replaced by "minimum monthly benefit age" and both "full retirement age" and "normal retirement age" are replaced by "standard monthly benefit age." It also directs SSA to discontinue the term "delayed retirement credit" and to refer to age 70 as the "maximum monthly benefit age." Updates must be completed by the later of 12 months after enactment or January 1, 2027.
