Sponsored By: Representative Perry

In Committee

Summary

Repeals D.C.'s authority to use automated traffic enforcement systems and to post signs banning right turns on red. The Stop DC CAMERA Act would repeal the authority in Section 9e of the District of Columbia Traffic Act of 1925 (D.C. Code sec. 50-2201.04e) that allows automated traffic enforcement. It would also repeal the authority in Title IX of the Fiscal Year 1997 Budget Support Act of 1996 (D.C. Code sec. 50-2209.01) that permits signage prohibiting right turns on red.

Remove D.C. traffic cameras and signs

If enacted, this bill would remove D.C.'s legal authority to use automated traffic enforcement cameras and to post some "No right on red" signs. Drivers in D.C. would get fewer camera-issued tickets and fines if agencies stop using cameras. Drivers would be able to turn right on red more often where signs are removed. The repeal would take effect upon enactment and the bill does not set replacement enforcement or new traffic-control rules.
