Special $2.50 coins for collectors
If enacted, the Treasury would mint and sell $2.50 numismatic coins for America’s 250th. It would allow up to 100,000 gold coins (4.1795 g, 0.425 in, at least 90% gold), up to 300,000 silver coins (26.73 g, 1.5 in, at least 90% silver), and up to 750,000 coins (11.34 g, 1.205 in) to half-dollar specs. For two years after the first issue, the front would show allegorical liberty and the back would show Independence Hall, with the words "Semiquincentennial of the United States" and "1776-2026." The bill would state that the coins should be issued by July 4, 2026, if feasible. This would take effect upon enactment and would mainly affect coin collectors.
