Study for free, secure last-wish document system
If enacted, HHS would ask the National Academies to study a national, confidential, and secure system for last-wish documents. It would cover advance directives, organ donor registrations, health proxies, powers of attorney, and living wills. An authorized agent would be able to retrieve the documents. People would not pay fees to store or retrieve them. The Academies would give a status report within 2 years of enactment and final results within 4 years. This would study options only; it would not create the system yet.
