Longer leases on tribal trust land
If enacted, federally recognized Tribes would be able to lease eligible trust land for up to 99 years. The land would need to be held in trust for a Tribe on the Secretary’s official list of federally recognized Tribes. This would expand current long-term leasing authority beyond the Chehalis Reservation. A Tribe would choose whether to offer a long lease; the bill only authorizes it. Households, renters, and small businesses would be able to seek these longer leases on eligible land. The bill does not set an effective date or add funding.
