To amend the Bank Secrecy Act to exempt transactions with respect to cash reward payments by crime stopper organizations from certain currency transaction reports.
Sponsored By: Representative Rep. Guest, Michael [R-MS-3]
Introduced
Summary
This bill would exempt transactions between depository institutions and nonprofit "crime stopper" organizations that pay cash rewards for information about crimes from the Bank Secrecy Act's currency transaction reporting. It would require the Treasury Secretary to exempt such bank transactions from the reporting rule in 31 U.S.C. 5313(a). The exemption applies only to that reporting requirement and leaves all other Bank Secrecy Act reporting and recordkeeping obligations unchanged.

Less bank reporting for crime-tip rewards
This bill would require Treasury to exempt banks from certain cash transaction reports when dealing with a nonprofit that pays cash rewards for crime tips. The exemption would apply only to transactions between the bank and the nonprofit tied to those rewards. It would not change other anti–money-laundering reports or recordkeeping rules. There is no stated start date or end date. Individuals involved with these rewards could see fewer bank reports tied to these payments.
