Mandatory 24-hour parent notification for suspected abuse in Department of Defense child and youth programs. This bill would require the Secretary of Defense to issue a policy that makes covered programs notify parents or guardians within 24 hours and notify lawmakers and state officials within 72 hours.

Quick abuse alerts in military child care
If enacted, this bill would require faster abuse and neglect alerts in military child and youth care. Covered programs would include military child development centers, Department of Defense youth programs, family home day care, and providers that get help under 10 U.S.C. 1798. Parents or guardians would be told within 24 hours after staff learn of suspected abuse or neglect. Within 72 hours, notices would also go to the Senate and House Armed Services Committees. The local U.S. Senators and House Member, Delegate, or Resident Commissioner would get notice too. The Secretary of Defense would set the policy these programs must follow.
