Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Medicaid and CHIP cover stuttering therapy

Starting January 1, 2027, children on Medicaid or CHIP would be covered for speech therapy to treat stuttering. Coverage would include live video or audio visits. States could not set stricter limits on stuttering therapy than on other speech therapy. If enacted, this could lower out-of-pocket costs for families who need these services.

Stuttering screening in Medicaid well-child visits

By January 1, 2026, the government would add stuttering screening to child health quality measures for ages 2–5. Starting January 1, 2027, Medicaid well-child visits would include a stuttering screening for children ages 2 through 5. This could help find problems earlier so care can start sooner.
