Boosting the Rural STEM Pipeline Act

Sponsored By: Representative Riley (NY)

Introduced

Summary

Removes the cost-sharing requirement for the Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program. The bill repeals subsection (i) of section 10A of the National Science Foundation Authorization Act of 2002 and redesignates later subsections so the Noyce scholarships no longer carry a cost-share, and it makes grammatical conforming edits to related waiver language in the Research and Development, Competition, and Innovation Act.

No school match for Noyce teacher scholarships

This bill would end the cost-sharing rule for the National Science Foundation’s Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program. If your college takes Noyce awards, it would no longer have to put up matching funds. That could make it easier for schools to offer scholarships to future STEM teachers. If enacted, the change would start right away.
