New task forces to stop senior scams

If enacted, this bill would let Byrne JAG grants be used to create elder justice task forces. They would fight scams and financial abuse that mainly target people age 60 or older. Task forces could include or work with State and local police, prosecutors, and adult protective services. They could also coordinate with Federal agencies such as the FBI, FTC, DOJ, and Secret Service. Grant recipients that use funds this way would have to report each year counts of cases started, cases fully investigated and closed, and victims helped. They would also have to report the scam type, how offenders first contacted each victim, and any signs of organized or transnational crime. The Attorney General would send an annual summary of this information to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees.
