HR6460119th Congress

Recreational Drone Empowerment Act

Sponsored By: Representative Mann

Passed House

Summary

Clarifies and expands where limited recreational drones can operate by explicitly adding Class E airspace to the statute. It amends 49 U.S.C. 44809(c)(2)(C) to cover Class E airspace above Class G and Class E airspace that is designated as extensions to surface areas for Class B, Class C, Class D, or Class E. The change updates the law's airspace wording and may broaden the geographic categories where recreational unmanned aircraft are accommodated under existing rules.

More places to fly hobby drones

This bill would expand where hobby drones can fly under the recreational rules in 49 U.S.C. 44809. It would explicitly include Class E airspace above Class G airspace. It would also include Class E airspace that extends from Class B, Class C, Class D, or Class E surface areas. If you fly for fun, you would have more places to fly, within the existing recreational limits.
