Better VA coordination for community care
This bill would require the VA Under Secretary for Health to direct the Office of Integrated Veteran Care (or a successor office) to improve coordination of care when VA medical centers refer veterans to community providers. The Office would have to create guidance for VA medical centers to obtain final medical records after a veteran gets care from a community provider. The VA would set and monitor goals and performance measures for getting initial and final records and for ensuring community providers complete core trainings, and would require clear communication about whether each training is required or only recommended. The Under Secretary would report to the House and Senate Veterans' Affairs Committees not later than 120 days after enactment and every 120 days thereafter until the requirements are fully implemented.
