Cutting federal funds for immigration interference
If enacted, this bill would bar federal financial assistance to any State or local government that arrests, detains, prosecutes, or otherwise interferes with federal immigration officers. The Attorney General, in consultation with the Secretary of Homeland Security, would decide if that conduct occurred. For fiscal year 2026 and each fiscal year after, a jurisdiction found to have engaged in the conduct during the year would be ineligible for federal assistance for that year. The bill would define "federal funds" to include grants, contracts, cooperative agreements, and other financial assistance, and would treat territories and the District of Columbia as "States" for these rules. Ineligible funds must be reallocated to eligible jurisdictions, and funds could be restored only if the Attorney General certifies the jurisdiction stopped the conduct and provided written assurances it will not recur. The Act would take effect on the date of enactment.
