More school-zone safety funding

If enacted, states would be able to use federal highway safety program funds to address traffic incidents in school zones. The bill would raise a specified allocation share from 40 percent to 50 percent. It would require the Department of Transportation to issue rules saying school-zone projects may include crossing guards, flashing lights and beacons, visible signage and markings, crosswalks, traffic calming (including pedestrian islands), traffic lights, school zone audits and assessments, automated traffic enforcement, and Safe Routes to School non-infrastructure activities. These changes would take effect upon enactment.
