Improving MA SNP Act of 2026
Sponsored By: Representative Arrington
Introduced
Summary
Expand accreditation beyond NCQA for Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plans by allowing the Secretary to accept other private accrediting organizations that meet Secretary-established standards. The bill would amend the Social Security Act to let organizations with an application approved under section 1852(e)(4)(C) be deemed appropriate by the Secretary for accrediting SNPs, and it creates a pathway beginning in 2026 for those qualifying private accreditors to be used to approve specialized MA plans.

More accrediting options for Medicare SNPs
If enacted, this bill would let more private groups accredit Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plans. Beginning in 2026, the Secretary would be able to approve private accrediting organizations that have an application approved under section 1852(e)(4)(C). Those accreditations would have to meet standards the Secretary sets. This is a procedural change and would not directly change plan payments or benefits for enrollees.
