Summary

Excludes the first $100,000 of ordinary annual income for long‑serving full‑time law enforcement officers. This bill would add Section 139M so qualified full‑time officers with at least five years of service can exclude up to $100,000 of ordinary income in a tax year. It defines covered officers to include federal, state, and local police, corrections staff, probation and parole officers, judicial officers, sheriffs and deputies, and school resource officers. The rule applies to tax years starting after enactment.

Tax exclusion for eligible officers

You would be able to exclude up to $100,000 of ordinary (wage) income from federal gross income in a tax year. To qualify, you would need to work full-time as a law enforcement officer during that taxable year. You would also need at least 5 years of aggregated full-time law enforcement service as of the start of the tax year. The bill defines law enforcement to include federal, state, and local police; corrections, probation, and parole officers; judicial officers; sheriffs and deputies; and school resource officers. The exclusion would apply to taxable years beginning after the date of enactment.
