Limits SNAP purchases to healthier foods
This bill would change what you can buy with SNAP benefits. It would take effect 180 days after enactment. After that, SNAP purchases would be limited to foods the Agriculture Secretary defines as meeting new nutrition standards. The bill would bar most sugary sodas, many candies, many desserts and snack foods high in added sugar/sodium/saturated fat, and energy drinks. Drinks with milk, drinks with more than half juice, and items that need preparation would still be allowed. This would affect SNAP households and stores that sell groceries.
