Show full summary
- Would count all regularly recurring scheduled hours, including recurring overtime built into a firefighter's tour of duty, when computing average pay for annuities and applies to annuity claims after a 60-day post-enactment window.
- Would aim to improve recruitment and retention of Federal firefighters to help maintain high-quality Federal fire service for families and communities.
- Would require the Office of Personnel Management to issue rules within one year setting a maximum regular workweek for covered firefighters, not to exceed an average of 60 hours per week.

Higher firefighter pension pay, workweek cap
If enacted, this bill would change how federal firefighter pay and pensions are calculated. It would make the hourly rate bigger by using 2,087 hours instead of 2,756 to compute your hourly pay. It would also add to pensionable pay an amount equal to one-half your hourly rate times the regular overtime hours in your tour. OPM would have one year to set a rule capping the regular workweek, and that cap could not average more than 60 hours per week. The new rules would apply to annuities for separations that happen after the 60-day period following enactment.
