Reserve Forces Travel Fairness Act

Summary
Reimburses rental car costs for reserve component members who travel more than 150 miles for inactive-duty training or Ready Reserve muster duty. It would let eligible uniformed service members be paid for actual and necessary vehicle rental expenses for the entire training period and for one travel day before or after. The bill would also require the Secretary of Defense to update the Joint Travel Regulations within 180 days to put the change into effect.

Rental car reimbursement for reservists
If enacted, members of the uniformed services who travel more than 150 miles for reserve-component inactive-duty training or Ready Reserve muster duty would be able to get reimbursed for motor vehicle rental costs when those costs are part of their actual and necessary travel expenses. The allowance would cover rental costs during the full training or duty period and for one travel day before or after that period. The Defense Secretary would have to update the Joint Travel Regulations within 180 days after enactment to implement this change.
