Lower public housing rent for first responders
If enacted, this bill would cap rent for public housing families with a full-time police officer, firefighter, or emergency medical technician. Rent would be the larger of (A) 15% of your monthly adjusted income or (B) 5% of your monthly income, rounded to the nearest dollar. This applies to units assisted under the United States Housing Act of 1937 and only while the household member is employed full time by a federal, state, local, or tribal government or agency (including a public housing agency police force). The bill would make this rule an explicit exception to the usual rent calculation in section 3(a).
