Grants to support paid caregivers
If enacted, the bill would create a grant program run by the Secretary of Health and Human Services through the Administration for Community Living. The program would give nonprofit groups grants to help paid caregivers. It would authorize $250 million each year for fiscal years 2027 through 2031. Grants could pay for meals, rides to and from work, mental health care including PTSD supports, holistic wellness programs, and other services the Secretary approves. "Caregiver" would mean someone who provides paid care to a senior, a person with an intellectual or developmental disability, or a person with a chronic illness who needs supportive services. Nonprofits would apply in the form and manner the Secretary requires. The Secretary would report to Congress starting 90 days after the first grant year ends. Reports would be annual and list how funds were used, populations served, and measurable outcomes for caregiver wellness and retention.
