Introduced

Summary

Requires railroads to report train accidents and fires when they reasonably suspect their actions caused damage. Railroads must report track fires

This bill would direct the Secretary of Transportation, through the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), to update the federal railroad accident reporting rule (49 C.F.R. §225.9). If enacted, railroads would need to report any train accident that causes damage listed in that rule, and any incident that causes a fire (including a brush fire) alongside a track, when the railroad reasonably suspects its actions caused the damage. The FRA would write the specific reporting rules through rulemaking, and the requirement would take effect upon enactment.
