Summary
Extending legal protections for proprietary information. This bill would require the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to write rules that apply Section 8 confidentiality and handling standards to proprietary data it receives or requests.

Stronger protections for CFTC data
If enacted, the CFTC would have to write rules after public notice and comment to protect proprietary information it gets. The rules would extend Section 8 confidentiality protections to any proprietary data not already covered. The CFTC would have to limit access to appropriate staff, safeguard data by sensitivity, and protect against unlawful use or disclosure. The CFTC would also require other government agencies to give assurances that they will keep the data safe. These rules would take effect upon enactment.
