New soda purchase ban for SNAP families
If enacted, the bill would ban using SNAP benefits to buy certain sodas. You could not use SNAP to buy carbonated drinks that contain more than 1 gram per serving of added sugar, an artificial sweetener, or flavoring. The rule looks at the amount per serving to decide which drinks are covered. The ban would begin 180 days after enactment. It would affect SNAP participants, stores that accept SNAP, and soda makers whose products meet the rule.
