Designating May as National Bladder Cancer Awareness Month would set aside a month to boost public understanding, encourage early diagnosis, and rally support for patients, caregivers, and researchers. The resolution calls on the public, advocacy groups, the research community, and veterans’ organizations to promote awareness, observe ceremonies and walks, and focus attention on high risks from smoking and toxic exposures, the disease’s high recurrence rate (about 50 to 80 percent), and the need for renewed research and treatment advances.
