Recognizing the importance of pollinators to ecosystem health and agriculture in the United States by designating June 15 through June 22, 2025, as "National Pollinator Week".
Sponsored By: Representative Panetta
Introduced
Summary
National Pollinator Week would be designated for June 15 through June 22, 2025 and the bill would officially recognize pollinators' vital role in ecosystem health, agriculture, and the food supply. It cites that at least 80 percent of flowering plants require pollinators and that pollinators add more than $18 billion in annual crop revenue. It highlights steep declines, including an 85 percent drop for the North American monarch and a 90 percent drop for the American bumble bee, and the Western monarch's fall from about 10 million in the 1980s to fewer than 2,000 in 2020. It also notes that nearly 70 native pollinator species are federally listed as threatened or endangered and encourages public observance, conservation, and education to improve understanding and protection of pollinators.
