National Estuaries Week would be designated Sept. 20–27, 2025 to spotlight the need to protect and restore U.S. estuaries. The resolution highlights estuaries' size and value: they cover 13 percent of the continental United States land area but contain nearly 40 percent of the population, support about 2.6 million jobs in ocean, estuary, and Great Lakes sectors, contributed $511 billion to GDP in 2023, and sustain most commercial and recreational fish catch.
