This resolution would designate the week beginning October 12, 2025 as National Wildlife Refuge Week and spotlight the importance of the National Wildlife Refuge System. The System, run by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, includes 573 refuges, 38 wetland management districts, 5 marine national monuments, and more than 850 million acres across every state and territory. It supports hundreds of species, protects over 380 threatened or endangered species, and draws about 71 million visits a year that generate roughly $3.2 billion and support 41,000 jobs. The resolution would encourage events, recognize tribal and urban partnerships, and emphasize refuges' roles in recreation, climate resilience, and local economies.
