Summary
This bill would designate January 2025 as National Stalking Awareness Month and encourage policymakers, victim services, colleges, and the media to boost public education and support for victims. It lists findings that stalking affects about 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men, that over 13.4 million people report stalking each year, that more than 80 percent of victims are stalked by a current or former intimate partner or an acquaintance, and that technology is involved in roughly 80 percent of stalking incidents. The measure applauds service providers and urges expanded awareness and availability of services tailored to stalking victims.
