- American Indian and Alaska Native patients: Patients who receive emergency care outside IHS or tribal facilities would have up to 15 days, instead of 72 hours, to notify the Purchased/Referred Care (PRC) program to request payment.
- Elderly or disabled beneficiaries: People who are elderly or disabled would keep a 30-day window to notify PRC for emergency services.
- Providers and PRC payments: Notification to the Indian Health Service within 15 days would be a condition of payment for emergency care from non-IHS providers.

15-day notice for emergencies outside Indian Health Service
If enacted, Indians who get emergency care at a non–Indian Health Service provider or hospital would need to notify the Indian Health Service within 15 days. The 15-day notice would be a condition for the Indian Health Service to pay the bill. Elderly or disabled Indians would not have to meet the 15-day rule. The change would take effect upon enactment.
