Limits on federal insurer data access

If enacted, federal regulators would face new limits on collecting data from insurance companies. The bill would stop the Office of Financial Research from using a particular subpoena power to get insurer data. It would remove a subpoena and enforcement clause for the Federal Insurance Office. It would let the Federal Insurance Office share nonpublic data with federal agencies and state insurance regulators. Regulators would have to check other federal and state sources first. If data aren't available, regulators could collect from insurers only after following the Paperwork Reduction Act. The bill would preserve legal privileges and make Freedom of Information Act rules apply to submitted data.
