Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Defines Chevy Chase fountain location

This bill would define the term "memorial fountain" as the one at Chevy Chase Circle, Connecticut Avenue and Western Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. If enacted, that definition would limit the bill's removal and disposition rules to that single fountain. The definition would take effect upon enactment.

Remove Newlands name from fountain

This bill would require the Secretary of the Interior to remove specified name-bearing items referencing Francis G. Newlands from the Chevy Chase Circle memorial fountain in Washington, D.C. The items named are the brass plaque reading "Senator Francis G. Newlands", the stone tablet-like projection reading "Francis Griffith Newlands" and related inscription, and the carved "Newlands" on the fountain's coping stones (which may be removed or permanently concealed). The Secretary would offer those removed items to Newlands's descendants for 60 days. If no descendant claims the items within 60 days, the Park Service would keep them as Federal property and accession them into the Rock Creek Park museum collection. The requirement would take effect upon enactment.
