Medicare guidance on occupational therapy
If enacted, the bill would require HHS to provide education and outreach within 1 year of enactment. The outreach would explain how occupational therapy for substance use and mental health diagnoses is treated under the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual. It would list applicable HCPCS billing codes for those services. The main audiences would be Medicare providers, occupational therapists, and people with Medicare. This would clarify existing coverage guidance and would not create new payment rules or change eligibility.
