Sponsored By: Senator Sen. Sheehy, Tim [R-MT]
Introduced
Summary
Would let states rely on a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) triennial management review to meet triennial highway safety plan documentation requirements. The bill would direct the Secretary of Transportation within 180 days of enactment to revise the rules under section 402 of title 23 so that, during the period covered by an NHTSA triennial management review, that review can satisfy the information and documentation obligations tied to the triennial highway safety plan under subsection (k).

Simpler highway safety paperwork for states
This bill would let state transportation and highway safety offices use NHTSA's three-year management review. That review could substitute for duplicate paperwork required for the triennial highway safety plan during the same period. The Secretary of Transportation would have to revise the rules within 180 days after enactment. The change would only apply to the years covered by that NHTSA review. It would not change funding or who is eligible.
