Glen Canyon Dam study and construction
If enacted, the bill would require the Secretary of the Interior, through the Commissioner of Reclamation, to carry out a feasibility study of a selective water withdrawal system at Glen Canyon Dam. The study would include full hydrological modeling and follow the 2016 LTEMP Record of Decision and the 2024 LTEMP Supplemental EIS and Record of Decision. The Secretary would have 90 days to identify funding sources and would finish the study within 18 months. Study costs would be paid by the Department using appropriated funds, and any federal funds would be nonreimbursable and nonreturnable. If the Secretary finds a studied alternative feasible under reclamation laws and the Colorado River Storage Project power contractors concur, the Secretary would be able to begin compliance and construction. Nothing in this section would change the post-2026 reservoir operation guidelines for Lake Powell and Lake Mead.
