Home School Graduation Recognition Act
Sponsored By: Senator Ashley Moody
In Committee
Summary
Recognizes students who complete secondary education at home as high school graduates under the Higher Education Act. This bill would amend Section 484(d) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 to retitle that subsection and add a paragraph defining home-school graduates. A student whose home school is treated as a home or private school under state law would be considered a high school graduate for purposes of federal student aid eligibility under the Act.

More federal aid for homeschool graduates
If enacted, you would be treated as a high school graduate under the Higher Education Act if you finished secondary school in a home school setting that your State treats as a home school or private school. This would apply for Title IV federal student aid programs, like grants, loans, and work-study, and for other parts of that title that refer to "high school graduate." The bill would not add new funding or change other eligibility rules beyond this recognition.
