No overtime for rural EMTs
If enacted, EMTs and paramedics who work for a public agency that is a political subdivision of a State with fewer than 100,000 residents would not be subject to the usual overtime rule in subsection (a) of the Fair Labor Standards Act. The same would apply to private companies that contract to serve those small local governments. Employers would be deemed not to have violated the overtime rule for those workers. That could reduce overtime pay for covered EMTs and paramedics and lower employers' overtime costs. The change would take effect upon enactment.
